Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred DLC introduces a number of new activities, and Kurast Undercity is one of them. This dungeon will allow you to travel through Kurast and loot the many riches left there. Understanding Tributes mechanic is essential if you want to maximize your gains while getting the best gear in Undercity.
Kurast Undercity differs from Pit of Artificers in Diablo 4 in that you don’t need to farm keys to unlock it. You will easily unlock this new activity as you progress through the campaign. And once players have unlocked it, they can run this multistage, time-attack dungeon at will.
About Tributes
As for Tributes, although they are classified as Dungeon Keys, they are not required to enter Undercity. Their main role is to enhance the loot that drops when you run Kurast Undercity dungeon and increase the drop rate of some of Diablo 4’s rarest unique items. So if you don’t have Tributes ready, it’s recommended that you prioritize farming elsewhere, otherwise spending the same amount of time getting less Diablo 4 Gold will only make you feel disappointed.
However, please note that Tributes usually have clear requirements, and players usually need to reach Attunement level 1 before they can start your journey to Kurast Undercity. And please be prepared, they are very rare, and the drop rate is very low even in end-game activities.
But this is where this guide comes into play. Here we will introduce the different types of Tributes available in Diablo 4 DLC and explain where you can find them.
Before we get started, let’s make a few quick notes. First, you can get Magic Tributes during the leveling process, which can reward you with Magic Runes and Legendary Items, but they will not appear in the endgame. Second, to get Tributes, you need to have Vessel of Hatred expansion and continue to advance in the campaign so that you can unlock access to Kurast Undercity. Without further ado, let’s get started!
Types Of Tributes
Now let’s take a look at some of the types of Tributes you can get in a Diablo 4 Undercity dungeon:
Tribute Of Titans
First up, we have Tribute of Titans. A lot of Tributes you get in a dungeon are Tributes of Titans, which are earned by defeating summoned layer bosses.
In other words, you’ll get it quite often if you defeat Tormented Bosses. This rewards you with Tormented Boss Summoning Materials, which lets you fight more Tormented Bosses, which gives you more Tribute of Titans. This effectively lets you fight more Tormented Bosses, creating an infinite boss summoning materials loop where you have enough Diablo 4 materials to fight all of the bosses, and you also have more Tribute of Titans than you know what to do with.
Tribute Of Refinement
Next up is Tribute of Refinement, which rewards you with Masterworking Crafting Materials. You can get it from Nightmare Dungeons and Infernal Hordes.
You might notice a pattern here. Generally speaking, the rewards Tributes give you are usually somewhat related to how you get them. Masterworking Materials are usually dropped by farming Nightmare Dungeons and Infernal Hordes activities, so this is also where you will find Tribute of Refinement.
It is worth noting that according to the experience of multiple players, if you complete Infernal Hordes activities, Tribute of Refinement is much more likely to drop than if you randomly complete Nightmare Dungeons. So don’t be stingy with your Diablo 4 Gold to build the strongest build and kill everything in Infernal Hordes!
Tribute Of Harmony
Then there is Tribute of Harmony, which is randomly found in Sanctuary, which may mean that the chance of it dropping from anywhere is very small. Offering it to Spirit Brazier before starting your dungeon journey will reward you with a guaranteed rune. Based on previous speculation, we reasonably suspect that you’ll have a chance of getting these Tributes of Harmony wherever runes drop.
Tribute Of Radiance & Tribute Of Ascendance
Next up we have Tribute of Radiance and Tribute of Ascendance, which each have two versions, Resolute and United. It turns out that you can get both Tribute of Radiance and Ascendance from the same activities, but where you get them from depends on whether it’s Resolute or United.
For Resolute version, they’re found from Whisper Caches. However, they’re extremely rare, with a chance of dropping somewhere around 10%.
The really rare ones are United versions, which you can find from World Bosses. The difference is that they’re rewarded to all participating players, not just the one who opens the instance. So getting a Tribute is a matter of luck.
How To Farm Tributes?
So with that being said, how do you go about collecting Tributes? That’s a bit of a tricky question. And if you’re looking for Boss Tributes, which ones do you want to get?
Grinding World Bosses
Let’s be honest, it’s easy to kill more bosses, and then you’ll enter an endless loop of going back and forth between cities and bosses to get more Tributes and more boss summoning materials. This is actually very effective, and you can use it to farm almost any Diablo 4 items for sale you want, and you can even go after specific Unique and Mythic Unique Items if you’re patient.
Opening Whisper Caches
On the other hand, you can also complete Tree of Whispers to try to get more Tributes. This is definitely not as reliable as Tributes you get from farming bosses, but at least it currently has a higher drop rate than farming Nightmare Dungeons and Infernal Hordes, as well as the random items that drop when you encounter the endgame. That being said, it’s still early days for Vessel of Hatred, and there’s a good chance the developers will make this more common in future updates.
Running The Pit
Tributes can also sometimes drop at the end of Pit of Artificers. If you plan to run Kurast Undercity constantly to maximize your Diablo 4 Gold gains in a short period, it is highly recommended that you farm Pit and collect Tributes. Additionally, this will help you level up your glyphs faster in preparation for the endgame.
Wandering Around Sanctuary
Since some Tributes will randomly appear anywhere in Sanctuary, if you have completed the main quest of Diablo 4 DLC, it is a good idea to run around in the game and talk to other NPCs, which will allow you to potentially unlock new Tributes while you progress through the storyline.
Final Thoughts
Honestly, Kurast Undercity is a very cool addition to Diablo 4 endgame cycle, but the developers could really make Tributes appear more frequently, because even though they are very beneficial, they are not much more beneficial than the drops from Tormented Bosses.
And personally, I only got a few rare Tributes after investing a lot of time, and very few legendary or unique Tributes. So if you are just playing casually, don’t be surprised if you rarely see them. But anyway, once you get some Tributes, run Kurast Undercity and maximize their value! Hopefully, the RNG gods will bless you and give you the best loot!
